The Lem Family

Our Ministry’s Origin Story

In 2020, Ahavah became pregnant with the first of three children. Upon her first prenatal visit, the clinic stunned them with its neglect and unsanitary conditions. Disturbed by the sight of vulnerable women receiving care in such an environment, they were deeply burdened and knew they had to take action.

They raised funds to improve the clinic's conditions, providing a better experience for mothers. Out of this encounter, Our Mountain Tribe Ministries was thus born, and has grown to focus on reaching, teaching, and connecting with the community. Service projects are a way to reach the community, but our primary goal is to connect with their hearts and foster relationships. By modeling God’s love and grace through service, we create opportunities for teaching and discipleship, sparking curiosity about God and encouraging others to deepen their relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Luis and Ahava Lem, a full-time missionary couple who founded Our Mountain Tribe Ministries, serve the San Cristobal community in Guatemala. Ahava, born in Guatemala to missionary parents that serve to educate children in San Cristobal, moved to the US at age 7. In 2018 Ahava returned to Guatemala, where she met her husband Luis, and they married just one year later. Luis, born and raised in San Cristobal, is deeply rooted within his community and aware of the hardships and dedication it takes to overcome them. With a passionate heart for service, he is committed to helping and discipling others in order to bring glory to Christ.

Our Team

Our Mountain Tribe Team consists of 7 local Guatemalan volunteers and 2 volunteers in the U.S. We prioritize discipling our tribe members alongside serving the community, as discipleship equips us to witness, build fellowship, and grow closer to God. To see the world transformed for God’s glory, we must not only serve the lost but also nurture and equip fellow believers. This ensures every team member is prepared to share and live out the gospel.
